The Fiat 500 Sport Pulls a 180

While attending a local group drive, I overheard a discussion about some stunts pulled with a factory car over at Fiat of Austin. Two weeks later, I found myself in a back parking lot with my video camera and a tire squealing Fiat 500 Sport. The iconic little Italian car is powered by a “Multiair” 16 valve 1.4L straight four which produces 101 horsepower at 6,500 rpm, which is plenty to put the 2300 lb. car sideways. Based on the number of skid marks in the parking lot and the mark on the concrete from where it was allegedly driven off a good size set of stairs (I say allegedly because I didn’t personally witness it) you can tell this factory car has seen some rough times and, with the exception of the tires, it appears to be no worse for wear. I stated in an article about spotting one of the first Fiats in Austin, that the 500 is extremely popular in Europe and now, based on how many I see around town, I can tell it will be popular in the US. If the Sport version doesn’t excite you, wait a few months until the Abarth comes to the US, with a power rating of up to 220 horsepower.
