Graphite Grey McLaren MP4-12C
Always dreamed of owning a McLaren? Well now it’s easier than ever (providing you’re moderately wealthy)! The MP4-12C, dubbed the “fax machine” by Jeremy Clarkson, is the first production offering from the McLaren Group since the infamous McLaren F1. While Clarkson’s moniker was created to poke fun at an unusual name, I feel “fax machine” is an accurate description of this car—it’s all business. 2o12 models will come with an engine that produces 612 horsepower (earlier models can be upgraded at no cost). Weighing only 2900 lb, the 12c finds its way to 60 MPH in just over 3 seconds and can continue on to a top speed of 205 MPH. In the corners, the McLaren uses an electronic system that brakes the inside rear wheel to dampen understeer, a technique developed on the company’s Formula 1 cars. With supercars, performance is only half of the equation, looks are equally important: I will be honest, I am usually adept at capturing the feel of a car, but the MP4-12C escaped me, it does not come across in photos the way it does in person. Walking into the dealership, this car took my breath away; every line is perfect, the deep side intakes give it an undeniable aggressive feel. You will notice I posted two photos of the side mirrors, they are a masterpiece in their own right. I could go on and on, but you should see one for yourself, there are a number of dealerships across the country, take a short trip. This car was filmed in Palo Alto at McLaren of San Francisco.
