Rycote Micro Windjammers

When I shoot my videos I do not use an external microphone. Most of my shoots take place outdoors where wind noise used to be a constant problem. Thinking a wind-screened external microphone was the only solution, I began looking for a good option, then I realized that using a small piece of windscreen material to cover my internal microphone might resolve the issue. As I searched for the material, I discovered I was not the only one who thought of this solution: Rycote makes what it calls Micro Windjammers, small circles of wind diffusing “hair.” The package comes with six jammers and twenty adhesive circles, so you can use them over and over again.

Now that I have the Micro Windjammers, my videos are no longer disturbed by wind noise. I am really surprised I have never seen anyone using these before, they should work on almost any camera with an internal mic. I have not tried this yet, but if the mic port is in a convenient position, you could even use the jammers on your iPhone.
